Inflation stands at 4%, while gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half of the year grew more than 7%. The government set a 7% salary increase for State employees this month. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) proposed an increase of 8% in the minimum wage for next year. VGCL Vice President Mai Duc Chinh said: “The government resolution points out that by 2020, the minimum wage must ensure a decent living standard. Currently, the monthly minimum wage covers about 92% of basic living costs. GDP growth has been significant at 7%  and workers deserve to benefit from economic growth.”
